2012 saw all the UK rollhard chaps taking our Wörthersee cherries. We had everything all booked up since last December and it seemed like it was never going to arrive. But after what seemed like an eternity waiting for May the 9th to come around, it soon did and we were headed off to dover.
We did our usual trick and missed the ferry which was booked up for 4pm, so the 6pm ferry it was instead. We decided to stop of at our Belgian headquarters on the way to break things up a little bit, and we eventually arrived at Levi’s for around 12:30am. Not ideal considering we were up at 4:30 to set off to Austria (And the fact we didn’t get to sleep till about 2:30am). Anyway, by 5am we were all up and on our way to Austria…
After about 3minutes of driving this happened to Elmo. Only another 10hours+ to go for the rest of us
With Elmo soundly asleep we got on with the drive down through Germany on the Autobahn’s Turn’s out Germany has quite a few cool buildings dotted along the Autobahn’s and the KPMG building was one of them.
After getting all arty farty and checking out the German architecture we soon started to see some real sights, the Austrian Mountains!
It’s safe to say driving through Austria has been the best driving experience we’ve had so far, with a backdrop like that (And i only got better) what more could you want.
So after 11 or so hours of driving from Levi’s house in Belgium we arrived at our hotel in Velden, Austria. Where we also had amazing views to wake up to every morning. Can you tell we like Austria quite a lot yet?
Once we’d had a freshen up, which was long needed after 11hours plus driving we headed out for some food and then onto the Shell station. But we didn’t think to take our camera’s with us (Because were stupid) so thats where we end up picture wise on day one!
If you have never been to Wörthersee before and don’t really know how it works, people basically gather everywhere around the lake in the local towns and villages. One of these places is called Faaker See, which always draws big crowds and also hosted the Low Familia meet on Thursday (Which we missed ). Anyway, here are some pics from Faaker See.
At Faaker See we saw very clean car’s like the Passat CC above, and the Mk5 below.
Then we came across this very interesting mk1. We say interesting because that’s exactly what it is, sand covered engine bay, wheels and other small details. Then bit’s of cloth dotted around the car, and to finish it all of a wooden roll cage and bambo door cards for the suicide doors. All in all it was one of the most unique use of materials on a car we’ve ever seen.
Then it was back to normality, kind of. If a mk5 sat static on 20″ Vossen Wheels counts as normal to you? Either way this thing looked the nut’s. To get it sat static like it is on 20′s and still be able to drive it is a job well done sir.
Well that concludes Part 1 of our Wörthersee coverage, check out a few more pics in the gallery below and stay tuned for part with plenty more pictures for your viewing pleasure.
P.S. Also keep a look out for a feature we did while we were out there on a certain B5 with some very special wheels.
